Visual Communication Design
Instructing courses in Graphic Design focusing on complex design structures and the visual/logical organization and representation of information. With an emphasis on users and target audiences students research and develop methodical processes to solve complex problems and gain exposure to developing comprehensive identity designs. Also instructing courses on Issues in Design with an emphasis on the integration of historical ideas, styles, and trends in contemporary practice and focusing on user centered design within the mobile and digital space.

2D Design
In this course I introduce students to how to use the visual elements of 2-dimensional art and design, and the principles needed to organize them. The course introduces the student to a variety of materials, techniques, and media associated with the study of 2-dimensional design.

Drawing I
In this course I introduce students to traditional drawing media and experiences in the representation of the human form, action structure, volume, design, and their expressive potentialities.

The Art of Digital Design & Illustration
By integrating digital images and typography I instruct students to explore visual organization to discover new design solutions and create visually stimulating work. Students are instructed on MACs using the latest Adobe Creative Suite programs.

Oil Painting
A studio exploration of acrylic and/or oil painting techniques and their application to color and design principles and problems, including work with opaque and transparent effects.

Figure Drawing
An introduction to the study of the human figure with emphasis on construction, gesture, proportion, composition, and accurate representation of the human form using various media.

Basic Drawing
This course is an introduction to the fundamental skills of drawing. Basic concepts are taught to facilitate accurate representation of subjects. Exploration of the drawing process, various media, and individual development are stressed. The goal is to develop the skills to accurately interpret subject matter. The art elements are used to develop composition, and critique sessions provide students with a foundation knowledge of art terminology.

Intermediate Drawing
Students continue to experiment with different mediums, both traditional and digital, and are encouraged to develop individual styles and techniques through a variety of illustration assignments.

Color Theory and Application
Fundamental exercises exploring the use of color, application, and theory. Emphasis is placed on visualization and communication processes as they relate to the design field. This is a seminar/studio classroom structure.

llustration Design
Students will learn the purpose and impact of illustration in visual communication as a means of communicating ideas. It will give an overview of the history of this art form and will allow experimentation in a variety of different traditional mediums.

Advanced Photoshop
A continuation of the study and use of the Photoshop program. Students learn techniques, tips, and ways to utilize the program for deigning for print and digital applications.

Advertising Concepts
An overview of the history of advertising and the key aspects of the industry including art direction, strategy, copywriting, media, and research. A study of advertising’s impact on culture, society, and economics is included in this course with an emphasis on identifying the needs of a product or service and creating concepts which address them.

An overview of the history of advertising and propaganda and the key aspects. A study of the impact on culture, society, and economics is included in this course with an emphasis on identifying the needs of a product or service and creating concepts which address them.

Environmental Design
This is an introduction to environmental design; designing functional installations, kiosks, booths, banners, and signage for site specific and nonspecific spaces. The student will become aware of the variety of materials and their uses, design and function, budget constraints and feasibility of construction, while developing their individual style in a variety of projects.

Drawing the Human Figure
This course emphasizes the function of drawing, including definition, exploration, ritual and process. The goal is to develop confidence and consolidate skills into an approach to drawing that has broad applications. An introduction to the study of the human figure with emphasis on construction, gesture, proportion, composition and accurate representation of the human form, using various media and drawing philosophies.

Painting in Acrylics & Oils
The student will learn the use of light, color, value, shape and space; translating what he/she sees and transferring that vision into paint. This will be accomplished by experimenting with a variety of techniques in both mediums. We will be working from still life and will spend two weeks on each painting. We will start with acrylics on the first four classes and oils during the last four classes. Students who have a preference with oils or acrylics can use that medium throughout the session.

Oil Painting for All Levels
Oil painting for all levels is designed to create an environment for students to develop on their own interests and individual levels. The emphasis will be on becoming a better painter whether you have experience or not. The student will learn the use of light, color, value, shape and space; translating what he/she sees and transferring that vision into paint. This will be accomplished by experimenting with a variety of techniques.

Introduction to 2D Media
This course is an introduction to the drawing process and exploration of a variety of two-dimensional media. Individual exploration and development is stressed.
